What do a Bugatti Veyron, Kylie Minogue and a Humming Bird have in common?

Any thoughts?

Keep thinking…..there is a link, I promise…..!

Ok, I’ll give you the answer; they are all small, but perfectly formed, and are highly successful at what they do! Let’s step through it and I’ll explain further….

A Bugatti Veyron is just 1.16m tall. When you see one in real life, they really do look small. However, it’s size doesn’t stop it from being one of the fastest, most powerful cars available at any price. It has a top speed of almost 270 mph and is capable of getting from 0-60mph in around 2.5 seconds. Pretty impressive for something which is the height of an average 6 year old!

And then there’s Kylie Minogue (forgive the reference, I was a child of the 80s, so Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan were a big part of my childhood!). Despite only being 5ft tall, Kylie Minogue has a powerful voice that has enabled her to achieve massive successes in her career, which has spanned over 30 years. (Fun fact for you. For anyone who knows me and has met me, you may notice I often like to wear my hair curly, despite it being naturally very straight. My ‘obsession’ with curly hair started with Kylie Minogue’s ‘I Should Be So Lucky Video’ in 1987 - yes, really!)

And then there is the humble humming bird. The Bee Hummingbird is just 5 cm in length and weighs a tiny 2.0g. It is the smallest living bird in existence. However, it’s this delicate stature that enables it to float so effortlessly in order to extract nectar and small insects from flowers.

The point I’m trying to get across, is that bigger isn’t always better; sometimes it’s good to be small. After all, a humming bird wouldn’t be able to extract nectar from flowers if it was bigger and heavier, and a Bugatti Veyron wouldn’t be able to achieve a 0-60mph time of 2.5 seconds if it was the height of a Transit Van. And then there’s the big question; would Kylie be able to to ‘The Locomotion' as effectively if she was 7ft tall (for anyone who has no idea what the locomotion is, take a look….. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POWsFzSFLCE )

In the world of business consultancy and innovation, there are some big, well known companies, with big teams, big budgets and big invoices. And then there are individual people who operate by themselves, selling their time on a day to day basis. Akeno are neither of these things; we are, what’s become known in the industry, as a ‘boutique’ consultancy. We are collaborative, agile, flexible, and most importantly, capable, which is why we work with some of the largest and most well renowned brands in the world. We have been fortunate enough to work on a range of fantastic projects, from launches of stores in a retail space, to digital online solutions, and one of our current projects is a worldwide rollout of a new system for a Global automotive brand.

(Take a look at our Case Studies (https://www.akeno.co.uk/case-studies) and Testimonials (https://www.akeno.co.uk/testimonials) for more information about who we’ve worked with and what our clients say).

So, how do we achieve all of this if we’re not ‘big’. It’s our lack of size here, which is the key. As a company, our structure is small, which means we are flexible and agile when it comes to the administration and processes to trigger new projects and programmes. We can adapt to change easily; amending the scope of work and flexing resource as required to drive the project and change. However, just because we are small, doesn’t mean we cut corners. We adhere to all legislation and ensure rigorous Governance and compliance. We have a trusted network of Associates who we can bring into a project for anything from Project Management to Business Analysis, Sales Growth and even Technical Development. We also have a vast network of contacts at a Senior level across many large, well known organisations.

To sum it up, we are small enough to genuinely care about making a difference, but big enough to always deliver
